Well...this is going under paintings.
I really use color pencil in a way that looks more like a painting, than drawing...plus there is the watercolor background. Also I often use a solvent with the color pencil...making it indeed very paint like. BUT I didnt do that here.
Anyways, I liked the flower...then I saw the bee, and was hooked! So cute.
I think the reference photo came from scribbletalk...it's a site oriented to color pencil users, but boasts members like JD Hillberry and some other graphite greats.
Anyways, took me about a week off and on while at the Doctors office, waiting for water to boil...etc.
Prismacolors, koh-i-noor, derwent color pencil, and maimeriblu watercolors on Rising Stonehenge.
Warning...stonehenge doesnt really like being used as a watercolor paper.
Photo looks kind of dulled...maybe I can fix that.
I'm amazed that you can get such "painterly" effects with your pencils. This is a technically amazing piece of work, and the simplicity of the composition really belies the work it took to complete. Beautiful!

Nice - and I love glazing with my airbrush, the only opaque paint I have is white, which I rarely use because I rely on the white of the support for highlights.

You realy got the crepe effect on those poppy petals Kelli - very nice. Also like the way you used a light greenish background to contrast the orange flower!
I didnt make any artistic decsions with the background...other than deciding to do it in watercolor...the reference photo has a bg like this.
But thanks...I love poppys so it was fun.

Wow this is REALLY beautiful, i really like this. I like the color of the flower and how it stands out from the back ground, and it doesnt blend in to much , so that youll notice the flower, very neat !
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
